Connect With Care
“ …people tend to assume that everyone moves through the world the way they do.” — Roxane Gay
I’ve just finished Hunger by Roxane Gay, and the quote above infused this week’s podcast episode. Your self care right now is paramount. No shame or guilt as to how you’re handing the COVID-19 pandemic (unless you’re not washing your hands and taking necessary precautions to keep others healthy). My big networking message this week is to remember that others handle similar circumstances differently. Their lens is not your lens on the world, even if from the outside, it appears that you have a lot in common.
More in the podcast, and the episode comes in under 10 minutes, so a quick hit of Kelly’isms plus ideas on how to engage your network — from NOT requesting video conferencing to a private variety show to boost morale.
There are more ways for us to connect this week, beyond the newsletter and podcast (fancy that!).
Join me for live-streaming video conversations:
- Wednesday, a masterclass in delivering online presentations and well, how to project your presence on the next Zoom team meeting with the public speaking gurus from Vital Voice.
- Thursday, a conversation that started on Twitter continues, as Mary Carty joins me (again) to discuss the importance of the artistic and small business community to the fabric of our networks (+ why we need to support them now, more than ever).
- Friday, journalist Molly McCluskey and I will be ripping apart PR pitches and grouching on the horrid media / story pitches journalists receive on a daily basis. This will be straight talk on PR: what to do and not do if you want to build a network with the media. There will be potty language (you’ve been warned).
Hang with me for a Creative Mornings field trip on Thursday.
And of course, I’m on Twitter at 10:30 am every weekday for a 30 minute #BYDN #VirtualWaterCooler.
