…because it’s ok to allow the snow globe to settle.
…because life is a whirlwind.
…because your crazy matters.

John Waire, documentary photographer

Ah, the snow globe. It’s a perfect visual of our lives. Vigorously shaking a situation — checking email incessantly — continuously scrolling social media — seeking a different outcome or result, rather than breathing in the pause to see where things settle.

Insert a pause (if you can) this week. Let your efforts over the past few weeks just float out there, curiously watch to see where they are landing, naturally. In the anxiety to force things to happen, we bypass the pause and deny what we’re fingers-crossed seeking the benefit of unseen possibility.

A pause is a mini ‘benefit of hindsight” moment. Try it.

Key takeaways from my conversation on the podcast with Maxie McCoy, author of You’re Not Lost:

  • 12:36 — Understand why it’s necessary to take your eyes off the “linear career ladder mindset” and instead make the most of the opportunities in front of you.
  • 24:48 — We share the most significant lessons they’ve learnt from their books (and Maxie has a big reveal).
  • 28:11 — Learn the difference between an exact career destination and heading in the general direction.

My #BYDN networking ask! If you enjoyed this week’s podcast (or frankly any of the episodes of the Build Your Dream Network podcast that you’ve listened to), could you:

  1. Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes/Apple Podcasts or Spotify or wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.
  2. Rate the podcast (5 stars please!) on iTunes/Apple Podcasts (and if you really feel like going crazy, write a review too!).

Subscribing, rating and writing reviews has a big impact, in terms of podcast discoverability by new listeners as well as promotion by podcast platforms. So thank you (in advance) for taking the time to listen to my podcast and for rating/reviewing it. Knowing I have your support truly makes the hustle and grind of creating/marketing/promoting a podcast a whole lot more enjoyable!

What does my network see and need from me? Because the answer to what I do next is not in looking at what other people are doing.” #BYDN
